Start with the version you are playing
The opening board has eight rows and eight columns, a tray of pieces, a current score, a best score, and optional Clear 10+ and Refresh controls.
Keep placing pieces and clearing full rows or columns before the board runs out of space. The screenshots and controls on this page refer to the browser build hosted here. Level layouts and helper availability can change, so follow a current in-game prompt when it differs from a general example.
Drag a piece from the tray onto an empty part of the board. Use a mouse or one finger.
Your first round, step by step
- Look at every piece in the tray before choosing a position.
- Drag a shape onto empty cells. Its whole outline must fit.
- Fill a complete row or column to remove that line.
- Use the cleared space to fit the remaining shapes and continue.
Let the result of each action settle before committing the next one. That makes it easier to separate a rule you have misunderstood from an input that did not register.
Space matters more than a single clear
A line clear is useful because it changes the shape of the empty board. Before taking one, look at what remains. A scattered collection of single squares can be much less useful than one open rectangular area, even when both contain the same number of empty cells. Keep a connected space large enough for the bulkiest piece you can currently see.
Read the whole tray
The first piece that fits is not always the first piece to place. Check all the visible shapes and identify the least flexible one. A long straight piece needs a run of empty cells; a compact block needs a wider opening. Plan a home for that difficult piece before spending its only usable space on a smaller shape.
For your next round, pause before each new tray and name the hardest piece to place. Reserve its space, then place the others. Compare the openness of your board with a round where you place pieces in tray order.
Avoid sealed holes
A one-cell gap surrounded by blocks is hard to repair unless a matching piece appears. Try placing shapes along existing edges instead of building isolated islands through the center. After a clear, pause and scan for narrow pockets that are becoming disconnected from the rest of the board.
A way to think through the next move
Imagine the tray contains a long bar and two compact shapes. There is only one long gap left. If you put a compact shape into that gap because it makes an immediate line, the bar may have nowhere to go afterward. First reserve the long gap for the bar. Then compare whether either smaller shape can finish a different row or open a new region. The useful question is “Can all my visible pieces fit after this move?” rather than “Does this piece fit now?”
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating every empty cell as equally useful.
- Placing the easiest shape before checking the most awkward one.
- Chasing a score increase while leaving several isolated holes.
When an attempt fails, identify the specific restriction: direction, available space, exposed color, or the current objective. A different restriction calls for a different adjustment. Use an undo or restart to test one new idea rather than repeating the same sequence more quickly.
One thing to practice next
For your next round, pause before each new tray and name the hardest piece to place. Reserve its space, then place the others. Compare the openness of your board with a round where you place pieces in tray order.
You do not need a perfect run to learn something useful. Look for a decision you can explain afterward. That gives you a repeatable habit to carry into a new starting arrangement or a more complicated level.
Questions about Smash Blocks
Can I rotate a piece?
The opening build does not present a piece-rotation control. Plan around the orientation shown in the tray.
Are diagonals cleared?
The board-clearing rule uses completed rows and columns. A diagonal arrangement does not complete a line.
Will my best score follow me to another device?
The build stores its best score in the current browser. Clearing site data or using another browser can reset that record.
